Informed by Van Dijk\u2019s concept of political discourse and Fairclough\u2019s notion of media discourse, this study proposes a qualitative film analysis to approach the research objective. In particular, it examines continuites and discontinuities in two key films produced during two different republican governments, <em>Bordertown<\/em> (2006) \u2013 produced and disseminated under the Bush administration \u2013 and <em>Miss Bala <\/em>(2019) \u2013 made during the Trump administration. Based on their analysis, it is possible to argue that there is a shift towards a more negative portrayal of Mexicans, which is very much in line with the shift in political discourse from former US President George W. Bush to Trump. <\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/tab][tab icon_family=&#8221;none&#8221; title=&#8221;Resumen&#8221; id=&#8221;1580125134518-199a1-6ded&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1591951692256-3&#8243;][vc_column_text]\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #b0b0b0;\">Este art\u00edculo se basa en las afirmaciones de Trump sobre la cultura mexicana y la migraci\u00f3n desde Am\u00e9rica Latina para explorar hasta qu\u00e9 punto su ret\u00f3rica hegem\u00f3nica ha contribuido a desarrollar las im\u00e1genes de M\u00e9xico en la producci\u00f3n cinematogr\u00e1fica de Hollywood. Informado por el concepto de discurso pol\u00edtico de Van Dijk y la noci\u00f3n de discurso medi\u00e1tico de Fairclough, este estudio propone un an\u00e1lisis cinematogr\u00e1fico cualitativo para abordar el objetivo de la investigaci\u00f3n.
