As a scholar of twentieth and twenty-first Latin American, Mexican and U.S. Latino literature and culture, she analyzes the ways in which literature and films manifest monstrous and deviant bodies: the human and the nonhuman, the corporeal and the spectral, and the dead and the undead. Responding to these modern day changes, Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan\u2019s television series\u00a0<em>The Strain<\/em>\u00a0(2014-2017) uncannily echoes, or perhaps foreshadows, the social realities under an informational, networked, and epidemiological paradigm. The filmmakers here present viewers with hybrid monsters and environments that are highly interconnected and pathogenic, reflecting contemporary social fears regarding failing democracies and global pandemics. Drawing from Guillermo del Toro\u2019s recent television collaborations, this article examines how twenty-first century vampiric bodies comment on a society altered by informational and technoscientific labyrinths. The labyrinths analyzed here, and the bodies hidden within them, are presented as looming threats that may destroy democracies in order to institute a totalitarian regime. Profit-driven institutions and governments, beholden to ominous masters in a more global and interrelated economy, invite malevolent actors who are allowed to dominate, exploit, and kill everyday citizens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #b0b0b0;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/tab][tab icon_family=&#8221;none&#8221; title=&#8221;Resumen&#8221; id=&#8221;1532705295639-39657-6df5&#8243; tab_id=&#8221;1547557827370-1&#8243;][vc_column_text]\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #b0b0b0;\">A medida que las econom\u00edas y culturas cambian debido a la tecnolog\u00eda y a la ciencia, las entidades vamp\u00edricas tambi\u00e9n se transforman para seguir provocando miedo- sus cuerpos cambian, sus poblaciones crecen y sus redes de comunicaci\u00f3n se expanden. Respondiendo a las realidades del mundo actual, Guillermo del Toro y Chuck Hogan, es su serie de televisi\u00f3n, <em>The Strain<\/em>\u00a0(2014-2017), replican, o, tal vez, presagian una sociedad informada por un nuevo paradigma inform\u00e1tico y epidemiol\u00f3gico. Los creadores de esta serie presentan al p\u00fablico un especie de monstruo h\u00edbrido sumamente interconectado que facilita un contagio extensivo. Argumento que estos nuevos vampiros articulan miedos y ansiedades asociados con la fragilidad de las democracias y la expansi\u00f3n de epidemias a un nivel global. Tomando la serie de televisi\u00f3n de Guillermo de Toro y Chuck Hogan como punto de partida, este art\u00edculo examina c\u00f3mo los cuerpos vamp\u00edricos del siglo XXI constituyen un comentario sobre una sociedad transformada por laberintos inform\u00e1ticos y tecno cient\u00edficos. Los laberintos aqu\u00ed analizados, y los cuerpos escondidos en ellos, se presentan como una amenaza a las democracias que facilitan el establecimiento de un r\u00e9gimen totalitario. Instituciones de comercio y gobiernos, con fines de lucro, est\u00e1n dominados por entidades monstruosas.
