She is the author of three critical books, <em>Autofagia y narraci\u00f3n: estrategias de representaci\u00f3n en la narrativa iberoamericana de vanguardia<\/em> (Madrid, Iberoamericana, 2003), <em>La ciudad paroxista. Prosa mexicana de vanguardia (1921-1932)<\/em> (Mexico, UNAM, 2009) and <em>Prensa y literatura para la Revoluci\u00f3n. La Novela Semanal de El Universal Ilustrado (1922-1925)<\/em> (Mexico, UNAM\/El Universal, 2016); co-editor of the first 20th century volume of <em>Historia de las literaturas mexicanas<\/em>. <em>La revoluci\u00f3n intelectual de la Revoluci\u00f3n Mexicana (1900-1940)<\/em>, UNAM (2019), as well as the collective book <em>Las culturas de la prensa en M\u00e9xico (1880-1940)<\/em>, UNAM (in press). But it also shows them how vices that capital city entails are penalized, fortifying as well the idea of the city as Distopia. &#8220;It is the best moment to live in the city&#8221;, but at the same time, &#8220;city corrupts&#8221;, and corruption is penalized because order is needed. Mexico City&#8217;s representation in 1920&#8217;s El Universal Ilustrado traces an interdisciplinary route that incorporates other directions to the traditional Porfirian city. Salvador Novo&#8217;s and Arqueles Vela&#8217;s articles, illustrated by Andr\u00e9s Audiffred or Jorge Duhart, stand out among other less radical representations by picturesque chroniclers and Gustavo Casasola&#8217;s photos. The ambivalence of these utopian and dystopian proposals may be part of the critics of modernity: intellectuals locate themselves between challenge and comprehension, the necessity of evaluation and warning, celebration and praise.[\/vc_column_text][\/tab][tab icon_family=&#8221;none&#8221; title=&#8221;Resumen&#8221; id=&#8221;1532705295639-33d7d-8e03&#8243; tab_id=&#8221;1580125134518-1&#8243;][vc_column_text]\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #b0b0b0;\">Este art\u00edculo reflexiona sobre c\u00f3mo la prensa moderna mexicana permite a sus lectores volverse habitantes o visitantes de la capital, que m\u00e1s que como destino funciona como utop\u00eda de la paz posrevolucionaria en muchos momentos. Al mismo tiempo, muestra c\u00f3mo los vicios que la urbe entra\u00f1a son penalizados, abonando en el imaginario una visi\u00f3n dist\u00f3pica de la capital: \u201ces el mejor momento para vivir en la ciudad\u201d, pero, a un mismo tiempo, \u201cla ciudad corrompe\u201d, y la corrupci\u00f3n es castigada pues es necesario el orden. Esta lectura de la representaci\u00f3n de la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico en el semanario cultural El Universal Ilustrado de los a\u00f1os 20 traza un recorrido interdisciplinario que incorpora otros rumbos a la tradicional ciudad porfiriana. Destacan los textos de Salvador Novo y Arqueles Vela, en mancuerna con las ilustraciones de Andr\u00e9s Audiffred o Jorge Duhart, junto con otras representaciones menos radicales, de otros cronistas m\u00e1s apegados al tono costumbrista, acompa\u00f1adas por las fotograf\u00edas de Gustavo Casasola. La ambivalencia de estas propuestas ut\u00f3picas y dist\u00f3picas se inscribe dentro de la cr\u00edtica de la modernidad: en el posicionamiento del intelectual coexisten el desaf\u00edo a la comprensi\u00f3n, la necesidad de evaluar y advertir, la celebraci\u00f3n y el encomio.
